Hiking the Chilkoot Trail

In 2010 I crossed the Chilkoot Trail for the 4th time.  This time with both my son – Jordan (12), and my dad – Don (73).  This was a trip I had been looking forward to since the first time I crossed the Chilkoot when I was 14 years old.

For those who don’t know, the Chilkoot Trail, was the path taken by gold seekers on their way to the klondike in 1897.  Starting in Seattle, gold hunters would board steamers for Dyea, Alaska from there they would pack 1 ton of supplies up over the Chilkoot trail to Bennet Lake, Yukon.  There they built boats and sailed north to the gold field of Dawson City.

For us it was a 4 day hike over some 37km.

The photo in this post is of my son climbing the “Golden Staircase” on Day 2.
